REGIS PROGRAIS believes he will be back at the top of the 140lbs division after his fight against Jack Catterall.
The two had been scheduled to meet this weekend at Co-op Live in Manchester but an injury to Catterall postponed their bout until October 26 at the same venue.
Prograis will be keen to prove his one-sided loss to Devin Haney last December was a one-off and can get back to his best against Catterall.Meanwhile, the Englishman picked up the biggest win of his career in a rematch against bitter rival Josh Taylor three months ago.
The current state of play at super-lightweight leaves it open for debate on who is the best in the division. Haney and Teofimo Lopez have a strong case while new champions Liam Paro and Jose Valenzuela will believe they too should be considered having beat former champions Subriel Matias and Isaac Cruz.
Speaking to Boxing News Prograis says he isn’t surprised there currently isn’t one dominant figure in the division.
“Boxing is just like that. Boxing is like the stock market, you just never know what is really going to hit,” he said. ” And for me that’s why this fight [against Catterall] is important. You got two high-level guys fighting each other. I feel like this will determine who’s that guy in the division. I really do. This will determine that person.
“Teo, you could say but you can’t because he’s looked like s**t. He hasn’t been looking good. I was [number one] but Haney beat me then Ryan [Garcia] beat Haney. Everybody was saying Mattias then Paro beat Mattias and then it’s “Pitbull” [Cruz] and he just lost.
“There’s not really that guy in the division so after this fight I do feel it’s going to be that guy in the division and it’ll be me once again. I did it already. I’ve been the guy already before twice so it just makes sense to me again.”
