TRAINER Peter Fury says his son Hughie is readying himself for another world heavyweight title shot.
The 30-year-old will return to the ring on June 28 against Belgiumโs Michael Pirotton. The eight-round bout takes place on the Shakan Pitters-Bradley Rea undercard at Connexin Live in Hull.
Fury, 30-3 (17 KOs), will be making his fifth appearance in 14 months after a period of three years without a fight from October 2021 until April 2024 due to illness.
Under the watchful eye of his father and trainer the Fury duo have one goal in mind – to fight for the world title. In September 2017 Tysonโs cousin lost out to WBO champion Joseph Parker at the Manchester Arena. The majority decision was a contentious one but eight years on Hughie believes he is now unstoppable.
โThereโs no stopping me between now and me winning the world heavyweight championship – Iโm on the title trail,โ he said.
โIf you follow heavyweight boxing youโll know Michael Pirotton is a dangerous young heavyweight. Heโs making a bold move by coming after me, which I quite admire. Heโs got nothing to lose and everything to gain. Heโll be a very hard nightโs work on June 28th, but itโs my hand will be raised when itโs all over.โ
Pirotton, 10-1 (4 KOs), recently competed in the inaugural WBC Grand Prix in Riyadh but lost out to Polandโs Piotr Lacz on points.
Peter Fury believes Hughie is bang on schedule after 14 months of action and is confident that the former British heavyweight champion will have another title in 12 months.
โHughie told everyone at the start of the year that thereโs no stopping him now until weโve won the world title,โ Peter said. โHeโs a man of his word. Weโre building momentum for that title run now. Heโs doing superb work in the gym, heโs right where he needs to be and heโs showing the world championship calibre which is going to see that belt wrapped round his waist this time next year.โ
