FLOYD Mayweather’s ongoing obsession with crossover exhibition boxing has led him to some strange places. On an alarmingly frequent basis, he now faces fighters barely capable of polishing his gym boots.

After Floyd’s latest outing- a facile eight-round dance with John Gotti III- the crowd were less than appreciative of the veteran’s own particular brand of the sweet science. One man who is never afraid to give an opinion on Mayweather’s activities is the ‘Golden Boy’ Oscar De La Hoya.

“It was so embarrassing. Floyd, you’re 50 years old. You’re a legend in the sport. I know life is expensive. But come on, dude, put your legacy first. Nobody wants to remember you like this,” De La Hoya said on Instagram, also referencing the referee warning Floyd for hitting the overmatched Gotti behind the head.

Oscar’s tongue-in-cheek video blasts have become a staple of many fight fans’ weekly digest as he takes aim on a different target each time. As for Mayweather, while he may not be fighting in a serious capacity anymore or suffering regularly disturbing losses like Roy Jones Jr did towards the end of his career, the 47-year-old is just following the well-trodden path of a fighter who cannot bring himself to hang up the gloves.

Whether genuinely sympathetic or secretly chuckling at the plight of a man who defeated him in 2007, Oscar reckons he can help ‘Money May’ out of his post-retirement malaise.

“I hate seeing this happen, bro. As I’ve always said, it’s hard to make money, but it’s even harder to keep it. Floyd, I’m rooting for you. Come on, let’s turn it around,” he grinned.
