FLOYD MAYWEATHER is not known for attending fights for fun. Even in the run up to the biggest fight of his career, when he fought Manny Pacquiao last year, Mayweather seemed almost almost bored of the sport. Yet he appeared at Pacquiao’s latest fight on Saturday, a points win over Jessie Vargas, sparking speculation that a rematch between Mayweather and Pacquiao could be on the cards for 2017.

After the Vargas fight Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach said of Floyd, “I didn’t see him but that was nice of him. He came by my gym a couple of times over the past couple of months and [was] very nice, polite. I hope he’s looking for Manny Pacquiao but we’ll see.”

Manny’s promoter Bob Arum however played down thoughts of Mayweather-Pacquiao 2. “Floyd is retired. Period. As far as we’re concerned and as far as he’s telling us he’s retired and I respect that,” Arum said simply.

“He was very nice. He called. He said he wanted to come to the fight so Todd Duboef got him credentials and a great seat right behind the commentators and we got tickets for his entourage.”

On his initial thoughts for Pacquiao’s next fight Arum suggested, “Off the cuff, without exploring all options, I would say Terence Crawford … Vasyl Lomachenko … and maybe depending on the timing Danny Garcia or [Keith] Thurman, would be possibilities, so all of those guys would be in the mix.”
