Who for you was boxer of the tournament at the Tokyo Olympics?

Richie Woodhall
Olympic medallist

Galal Yafai. Because boxing’s not all about mid and long range counter-punching and looking good on your feet. You’ve got to appreciate that short to mid range work and no one did it better. Even more refreshing was that it was rewarded by the judges.

Tony Davis
Olympic coach

It’s a tight one for me between Andy Cruz and Galal Yafai but if I had to pick one it would be Galal. He was unseeded, came through an array of styles from formidable opponents. What Galal did was nothing but a ‘demonstration of excellence in Olympic boxing.’

Lewis Richardson
GB middleweight

Galal Yafai was on fire throughout. He stopped, dropped and handed over standing counts. This doesn’t happen often in amateur boxing, let alone on the biggest stage at the Olympic Games. He rose to the occasion, even beating Cuba along the way.

Andy Clarke
Boxing Commentator

Galal Yafai. He produced a string of exceptional performances. Wins against Cuba and Kazakhstan and then a supersonic display in the final. I loved watching Roniel Iglesias, Arlen Lopez and Julio La Cruz do their thing, Busenaz Surmeneli too, but for me it’s Yafai.
