Top five next opponents for Vasyl Lomachenko

John Dennen considers what Vasyl Lomachenko should do next

Top five next opponents for Vasyl Lomachenko

1. Gervonta Davis

It’s clear Vasyl Lomachenko is a different type of fighter. But there is something special about America’s IBF champion Gervonta Davis. He has had more professional fights than Lomachenko, though is younger and can’t match the Ukrainian’s acres of amateur experience. But Davis arguably does at least have more one punch power and combining these two would make for a thrilling spectacle.

2. Mikey Garcia

This would be a meeting of two of the best boxers pound-for-pound in the sport. Garcia has the technical skills to compete with Lomachenko. If Garcia moves down from super-lightweight, and Lomachenko steps up a division, Mikey could come into this with a size advantage.

3. Jorge Linares

The Venezuelan is another superbly talented fighter, whose style would surely blend with Lomachenko’s. Moving up to lightweight as well would give Lomachenko the chance to become a three weight world champion, extraordinarily, in only three fights.

4. Orlando Salido

Lomachenko avenged his famous amateur defeat to Albert Selimov in style at the 2008 Olympic Games. He has not yet put right his sole professional loss. Orlando Salido was a little too crafty and seasoned when they boxed in what was only Lomachenko second professional contest. Now Lomachenko has moved beyond that level but it still would be good too see him settle the score.

5. Miguel Berchelt

The Mexican has had two exciting fights to win and defend the WBC super-featherweight title this year and this contest would give Lomachenko the chance to unify titles in his division.
