  1. Canelo Alvarez

It’s the fight planet earth is clamouring to see. Golovkin-Brook has made the Canelo fight even more compelling. ‘GGG’ is still a devastating aggressive fighter. But Brook caught him with combinations and even forced Gennady to take a backwards step – a rare sight. Against a man bigger than Kell, with a heavy punch, that would be an interesting prospect indeed.

  1. Billy Joe Saunders

‘I want all the belts,’ says Gennady Golovkin. There is one major title outside of his grasp. That is the WBO crown held by Billy Joe Saunders. Billy is a clever, thinking boxer, and one not averse to a spot of trash talk. A unification for all four middleweight titles would be a huge fight.

  1. James DeGale

Golovkin is a big favourite against any middleweight. Stepping up a division would offer him a new challenge. DeGale, an Olympic gold medallist and established world champion, knows his way around the ring. He is a big man who will be hard to bully, who moves well and can really ask new questions the Kazakh.

  1. Danny Jacobs

This could be the most likely next opponent for Golovkin. He holds the WBA’s secondary or ‘regular’ middleweight title and the WBA has mandated that he fight their Super champion. He’s a quality, technical operator and in his recent bouts has been showing power too. Jacobs might have the grit to extend Golovkin.

  1. Sergey Kovalev

It seems unlikely but then Kell Brook jumped up two divisions to box Golovkin. Maybe Gennady should take a leaf out of his latest opponent’s book. Rumours abound that Golovkin dropped Kovalev with a body shot in sparring and perhaps he would carry his power up to light-heavy, even a real fight. Stranger things have happened…
