Top five next opponents for Dillian Whyte

John Dennen considers the best options for Dillian Whyte next

1. Deontay Wilder

Dillian Whyte has proven he deserves his shot at the WBC world champion, picking up solid wins to advance himself up the rankings. It’s a fight that makes sense. Whyte is guaranteed to be handful and if Wilder wants to advance his profile in the UK, to build to a fight with Anthony Joshua, it ought to make sense to him. For Whyte, becoming a world champion in his own right would be hugely satisfying, and inevitably lead on to a rematch with his great rival. Speaking of whom.

2. Anthony Joshua

The two have history, they boxed as amateurs and Joshua stopped Whyte in thrilling 2015 British title clash. Whyte has improved since and of course Joshua has, unifying three major heavyweight titles and beating Joseph Parker soundly on Saturday. If Whyte went straight to this, it would be a major UK fight.

3. Tyson Fury

As the boxing world talks about the possibility of Anthony Joshua fighting Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury still needs to make his return to the sport. But once a couple of tune ups are out of the way Whyte would be a worthy, high profile opponent for the former champion

4. Alexander Povetkin

The Russian doesn’t deserve a shot at Anthony Joshua, he didn’t deserve a bout with David Price, and frankly, given the multiple failed drug tests of his past, he doesn’t deserve a fight with Whyte. But after Povetkin knocked out Price, Whyte gleefully called him and it would be satisfying to see Whyte exact some vengeance for fellow Briton Price.

5. Dereck Chisora

The two had a thrilling battle, one of the best fights of 2016. Even though Whyte has moved on and Chisora has lost since then, the first fight was so good, a rematch would appeal.
