5. Wladimir Klitschko vs Kubrat Pulev

Despite dishing out fairly destructive knockouts, though not too pleasing for the eye, Wladimir Klitschko showed why he reigns supreme with a leaping left hook, collapsing Pulev to the canvas. He displayed an agility usually seen among the lighter weights in boxing, making a statement that he’s not just a textbook puncher.

4. Muhammad Ali vs Jerry Quarry II

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee! With no need to settle in, Ali found his mark in peppering Jerry Quarry, almost lazily teeing off with looping uppercuts and hooks. Waving to the referee to stop the fight while hitting a stationary Quarry with clusters of punches he forced the referee to halt the bout, all emphasising Ali’s confidence.

3. Nonito Donaire vs Manuel Vargas

The emergence of ‘The Filipino Flash’. Screw shots pierced through. Shifting to different angles for each punch, Donaire then switched his footing to land a final right hand which closed the curtains. After absorbing an array of punches Manuel Vargas almost chose to fall to the canvas, filled with pain, discouragement and embarrassment.

2. Floyd Mayweather vs Ricky Hatton

The 10th round, with the ‘Hitman’ becoming reckless, Mayweather exploited it with a countering hook, which Floyd Mayweather called: ‘The Check Hook’. He bounced Ricky’s head off the corner post, which contributed to the stoppage that soon followed. This was made a defining fight in Floyd Mayweather’s career, solely as the conclusion of the bout confirmed Floyd’s glittering skill, backing up his words as the pound-for-pound best.

1. Roy Jones Jnr vs Glen Kelly

This knockout of Glen Kelly is the definitive symbol of Roy Jones Jnr’s mastery at the time, exuding such confidence that he put his hands behind his back, slipped a half-hearted jab from Kelly to finish him with a counter right hook, ending the night with the utmost flamboyance.
