Top 10 featherweights from Britain and Ireland

1. NASEEM HAMED
   Among the hardest punchers in featherweight history, Hamed rose to prominence when stopping Steve Robinson in 1995. Fifteen largely thrilling victories followed before Marco Antonio Barrera spoiled the fun.
2. BARRY McGUIGAN
   McGuigan, one of Ireland’s most popular sporting icons, came of age the night he outpointed the great Eusebio Pedroza over 15 rounds to take the world title in 1985.
3. CARL FRAMPTON
   Having already won belts at super-bantamweight, Frampton made the move to featherweight to win another against Leo Santa Cruz in 2016.
4. SCOTT HARRISON
   Rough and rugged, Scotland’s Harrison landed on the world scene with victory over Julio Pablo Chacon in 2002 only to lose the belt against Manuel Medina two fights later. Revenge then followed, before the wheels came off in 2005.
5. STEVE ROBINSON
   Victories against men like Paul Hodkinson, Colin McMillan and Duke McKenzie cemented his Cinderella Man status before the loss to Hamed.
6. JOSH WARRINGTON
   Warrington, a Leeds hero, upset Welshman Lee Selby at Elland Road in 2018. He then defeated Carl Frampton and Kid Galahad to be many people’s choice as the world’s best featherweight. He now seeks revenge for his shocking loss to Mauricio Lara.
7. PAUL HODKINSON
   Liverpool’s Hodkinson fell short in his real fight at world class when stopped by Mexico’s Marcos Villasana in 1990, but rebounded brilliantly to win a rematch with Villasana the following year.
8. PAUL INGLE
   After losing to Naseem Hamed in April 1999, Ingle dusted himself down and beat the always hard-to-beat Manuel Medina later in the year. Ingle went on to outlast Junior Jones in America before losing in tragic circumstances against Mbulelo Botile.
9. LEE SELBY
   Wales’ Selby scored a bedazzling an eighth-round technical decision over Evgeny Gradovich in May 2015. Greatness was predicted in some quarters but the marquee fights were hard to come by. The loss to Warrington in 2018 has since triggered inconsistent form.
10. COLIN McMILLAN
    A terrific fighter at his best, “Sweet C” McMillan was a former British and Commonwealth champion who graduated to world level in 1992 when beating Maurizio Stecca. Injuries then haunted him.
