The 10 best sons of former fighters in British boxing today
Lawrence Lustig

1. Tyson Fury
John is the least decorated of the dads here (with a pro record of 8-4-1), but there is no disputing Tyson Fury’s accomplishments. As the world’s premier heavyweight, he has more than put his family name on the map.

2. Chris Eubank Jnr
Eubank Jnr has still to win a world belt as a pro but, at 32-2, has been in contention for a while. Chris, of course, won and defended WBO titles at both middleweight and super-middleweight.

3. Conor Benn
Conor Benn now stands at 21-0, winning his last two fights by knockout, and showing attributes his father, Nigel, displayed when engaging in some astonishing top-level warfare in the Nineties.

4. James Metcalf
Metcalf is 22-2 as a pro and a former Commonwealth super-welterweight champion. He is also the son of Shea Neary, the fan-friendly Liverpudlian who lit up the late ’90s and waged a 2000 war with Micky Ward.

5. Michael Gomez Jnr
Built slowly as a pro, Gomez Jnr is 17-1 right now and looking to emulate the success of his father, Michael, a former British super-featherweight champion and one of Manchester’s favourite sons.

6. Jacob Robinson
His father, Steve, was a former featherweight belt-holder in the 90s, and Jacob, unbeaten in 9-0, is the current Welsh Area featherweight champion with eyes on the Commonwealth belt this weekend.

7. Steve Collins Jnr
Steve Collins was a belt-holder at middleweight and super-middleweight, while his son, Steve Jnr, is currently 14-5-1 in his pro career, having lost his last three fights.

8. Tommy Welch
Dad Scott, the original ‘Brighton Rock’, captured British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles and fought the WBO strap in 1997. Tommy, meanwhile, is 6-0 as a pro with five knockouts.

9. Campbell Hatton
Born to one of the most popular British fighters of all time, Campbell Hatton has a lot to live up to, but, at 7-0, is progressing nicely. His father, Ricky, famously ruled at both super-lightweight and welterweight.

10. Anton Haskins
With four straight wins to his name so far, Anton Haskins is showing signs of following in his father Lee’s footsteps. Lee, of course, was a former IBF bantamweight belt-holder known for his awkward style.
