Seven have tried, but which British fighter could beat Canelo Alvarez?

Matthew Hatton
Fought Canelo

I don’t think there’s any fighter out there, British or otherwise. I never say anybody’s unbeatable but he almost is. You don’t see him hit that much these days, you don’t see him cut, you don’t see him rocked, you don’t see him in trouble. So he’s almost untouchable now.

Joe Gallagher
Leading trainer

Tyson Fury! Joking aside, he’s a phenomenal fighter. I’d like to see my own fighter Callum Johnson in with him. If Callum Smith had had a proper 10, 12 week training camp, we would have seen a closer fight. Callum Johnson, would he beat him? I don’t know, but it would be a fun fight.

Natasha Jonas
World title challenger

I don’t think that in Britain we have anyone who can beat him. He is the greatest today for a reason.

Chris McKenna
Sports journalist

I don’t think anyone is beating him at super-middleweight any time soon. Canelo only loses for me in the next couple of years if he goes to light heavy and faces a monster puncher. Eubank Jnr may get a shot at 168 in 12 months but he is highly unlikely to be able to break the run of Canelo bashing Brits.
