Panel: What is your favourite moment from David Haye’s career?

Matthew Hatton
Ex-world title challenger
For me, the standout memory of his career is the whole spectacle of the Nikolai Valuev fight. Watching from the outside as a spectator, just the sheer size difference between Haye and Valuev was incredible to witness. He overcame a serious height disadvantage in order to get the victory.

Wayne Alexander
Former EBU champion
The first time I ever saw him fight. It was at the 2000 ABA finals against a very good Courtney Fry who was the Commonwealth Games gold medallist. He was so impressive, he just walked through Fry and I remember telling people that Haye looked like a young Thomas Hearns.

Glenn McCrory
Former world champion
When he beat Jean-Marc Mormeck. That was David at his very best. Everything came together for him that night. It was a stellar moment in his career, as Mormeck was a tough, tough opponent – very dangerous. Being away from home and getting up off the deck, it was a terrific win.

Eddie Chambers
Ex-world title challenger
The major moment was when he became a heavyweight champ by beating Nikolai Valuev. Some people thought that he’d struggle against the really big guys, but I’ve had experience of that myself. I knew that he’d be able to handle it as long as he prepared correctly and used the right game plan.

What did you make of Anthony Joshua’s appearance at the recent protest march?

Matthew Hatton
Ex-world title challenger
There’d been a few rumours beforehand about him having an injury and being spotted on crutches, but it was news to me. His team have played the injury down, so hopefully it’s nothing serious. We need to see that Tyson Fury fight. Everyone is hoping that it gets made in the near future.

Wayne Alexander
Former EBU champion
Anthony Joshua making an appearance might have been controversial for some and that as a professional athlete he shouldn’t get involved. But as a young black man who has had issues with the police in the past, it was good to show the youth what can be achieved with positive thinking.

Glenn McCrory
Former world champion
I like Anthony and he’s obviously a big part of his community and his local area. It’s always a worry when you see a sportsman on crutches. It’s not like he just had a bandage on his thumb! But they’re saying that the injury is nothing to worry about and it’s all under control.

Eddie Chambers
Ex-world title challenger
I think it was a very, very good thing for him to be involved in – 100 per cent. As for him being on crutches, I was quite surprised to see that. But I know very well that you can pick up injuries when you’re out running or even when you’re playing basketball and other sports in your free time.
