TWO-TIME featherweight world champion Josh Warrington has given his prediction ahead of the clash between his former opponents Anthony Cacace and Leigh Wood in Nottingham this spring.

Warrington is more equipped than anyone to predict May’s highly anticipated super-featherweight bout between Wood, 28-3 (17 KOs), and Cacace, 23-1 (8 KOs), having shared the ring with both men in his last two outings.

After losing his IBF featherweight strap to Luis Alberto Lopez in 2022, Warrington challenged Wood for his WBA title. However, despite being ahead on all three judges’ scorecards, he suffered a devastating seventh-round stoppage. He then moved up to super-featherweight and faced Cacace at Wembley Stadium, but he was unsuccessful, losing on points convincingly to the Belfast native.

Nottingham’s Wood hasn’t fought since he stopped ‘The Leeds Warrior’ in 2023 and will move up to 130lbs to face Cacace, who relinquished his IBF super-featherweight world title in order to pursue a fight with Wood, instead of facing mandatory challenger Eduardo Nunez.

Speaking to Boxing News, the former IBF featherweight king Warrington has had his say on how he thinks the fight will play out.

“It’ll be an interesting fight. I’m picking Cacace at this moment in time, Leigh has been out of the ring for a long time, obviously he’s moving up in weight, but Cacace has got some good form going for him at the minute,” he said.

“Leigh is tough and unless Cacace can go up a gear, I think Cacace will beat him on points” Warrington added.

The all-action fighter has no fight scheduled at the moment. However, when asked about his future, he said: “There’s an announcement coming soon”.
