FOLLOWING his resounding victory over Eddie Hearn, Frank Warren has confirmed that a rematch between their two promotional stables will take place in May.
The Queensberry boss secured a clean sweep back in June, coming away from their 5v5 event with a £2.3m prize and, of course, epic bragging rights over his former rival.
Zhilei Zhang, Daniel Dubois, Nick Ball, Hamzah Sheeraz and Willy Hutchinson all took care of business, with five wins – three by way of stoppage – contributing to a 10-0 victory.
But now, it is worth taking a look at five potential matchups that could be staged later this year.
Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua
This is perhaps wishful thinking but, equally, it would make sense for the mooted all-British heavyweight clash to headline a second Queensberry vs Matchroom card.
After all, Hearn has insisted that he expects Anthony Joshua’s return to take place in May or June, while Tyson Fury is yet to comment on his immediate future after losing to Oleksandr Usyk.
Still, with ‘AJ’ targeting a dustup against his rival in 2025, it is possible that their matchup – not quite beyond its sell-by date – could take place sooner than anticipated.
Sam Noakes vs Joe Cordina
With Sam Noakes coming off a scintillating run of activity in 2024 – amassing four comprehensive victories – one would suspect that he can only go from strength to strength.
And so, a sizable step-up against former world champion Joe Cordina could make sense for both fighters, with the Welshman expressing his desire to return to action following his eighth-round stoppage defeat to Anthony Cacace.
More than anything, their styles are likely to make for a compelling spectacle, with Noakes looking to negate Cordina’s technical prowess with his aggression and work rate.
Fabio Wardley vs Justis Huni
Fabio Wardley and Justis Huni are widely regarded as two of the sport’s most promising heavyweight talents.
Coming off a knockout of the year contender against Frazer Clarke, Wardley has established himself as one of the division’s most lethal finishers.
Huni, meanwhile, is known more for his sharp footwork and ring generalship, representing a vastly different challenge for the prolific knockout artist.
Denzel Bentley vs Kieron Conway
While Denzel Bentley looks to land a rematch with unified world middleweight champion Zhanibek Alimkhanuly, a matchup with Kieron Conway could make for a more intriguing affair.
Despite becoming a three-time British champion following his victory over Brad Pauls, there are still plenty of options for Bentley to consider in the domestic scene.
But Conway, after cementing himself as the mandatory challenger for the Lonsdale Belt, appears to be an obvious opponent for the Londoner.
Sam Gilley vs Ishmael Davis
After taking his last two fights against Josh Kelly and Serhii Bohachuk on short notice – while also producing strong performances on both occasions – Ishmael Davis has, at the very least, earned the right to be given a full training camp.
Not only that, but a collision with Sam Gilley cannot fail to deliver fireworks, perhaps even giving the two fan-friendly fighters a chance to challenge for the vacant British super welterweight title.
In any case, a domestic classic is exactly what would unfold should the pair lock horns.
