JOSE Resendiz possesses a sturdy but limited style, one that is tailor-made for former world champion Caleb Plant to produce a typically dazzling performance against.
The pair will square off this Saturday at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, topping a Premier Boxing Champions bill along with super-middleweight contender Jermall Charlo.
Clearly, both Charlo and Plant, 23-2 (14 KOs), are expected to come through their upcoming assignments and, in turn, build a sense of excitement around their likely showdown later this year.
And despite Charlo’s inactivity in recent years, it is a matchup that makes a great deal of sense.
It is, after all, a clash between two outspoken Americans, with neither of whom wishing to give an inch of ground when engaging in a fiery build-up.
But also, the fight itself should deliver a compelling battle of both technical and physical prowess, quite possibly sending the winner towards another shot at world honours.
Before Charlo enters the equation, though, Plant must first take care of business against Resendiz, 15-2 (11 KOs).
The previously little-known Mexican rose to prominence after pulling off a sizable upset against Jarrett Hurd, with his stunning 10th-round stoppage victory largely derailing the American’s middleweight title ambitions back in 2023.
That version of Hurd, however, was a far cry from the super-welterweight bully who, with a terrific size advantage, would quite simply overpower most of his opponents.
Yet still, in his following outing against Elijah Garcia, Resendiz once again proved to be a right handful – absorbing and dishing out spades of punishment – before suffering an eighth-round stoppage defeat.
As a result, the 26-year-old’s defensive vulnerabilities were exposed in dramatic fashion, presenting Plant with plenty of material to draw inspiration from.
Unlike Resendiz, ‘Sweethands’ is a defensively polished technician who, while possessing a degree of firepower, too, is expertly conditioned to put on a boxing clinic every so often.
That much appears likely to unfold on Saturday, with the 32-year-old dancing rings around his more static opponent while, at the same time, overwhelming him with speed.
Not only that, but with Resendiz moving up from 160lbs, it is unlikely that he will enjoy the same physical advantages against Plant, a fully-fledged super-middleweight operator.
Caleb Plant vs. Jose Armando Resendiz Fight Prediction
So, given his opponent’s limited credentials, both in terms of size and skill, a masterful performance from Plant – one that could see him enter a far more appealing dustup with Charlo – should, even if just for a few rounds, take place in Sin City.
In other words, anything short of a comprehensive victory inside the distance could be seen as a disappointing night at the office for the Nashville slickster.
