Boxing News Readers’ Awards: Fighter of the Year Number 9

CARL FRAMPTON delivered on much of his promise in 2014, and the Boxing News readers placed him at No.9 in the Fighter of the Year standings as a result.

The Belfast hero blazed through tough Mexican Hugo Cazares in April to set up an IBF title fight with champion – and former Frampton victim – Kiko Martinez in September. Demand was high to see the unbeaten Northern Irishman attempt to conquer the world, and a purpose-built stadium was set up in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter.

Frampton did not disappoint his 16,000-strong army as he dominated a pulsating affair to pick up his first world title with a wide unanimous decision success.
