NINE British boxers are one win away from qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Games. At the qualification event in Samsun, Turkey a shock loss saw a decision go against Pat McCormack, to unheralded Armenian Hovhannes Bachkov. Cyrus Pattinson also lost to Armenia’s Vladimir Margaryan. But the rest of the GB team are through. Nicola Adams needs to win her semi-final to reach Rio 2016. There are three places available in each of the men’s divisions, victory in a semi-final would therefore guarantee qualification but defeat would at least put them through to a box-off for an Olympic spot.

Rob McCracken, Performance Director of GB Boxing, said, “The team has performed superbly and it is very good to have reached a point where we have nine boxers one win away from qualification however the job is not yet completed. This is an extremely tough competition and our boxers need to ensure they keep their focus and maintain the level of performance that has got them this far.”
