Zou Shiming can’t prise world title from Amnat Ruenroeng

ZOU SHIMING was Chinese boxing. Whether he will continue to be, after losing his first world title attempt to IBF flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng, remains to be seen. When the country’s Olympic hero turned professional he opened the gateway for major fight nights – featuring Manny Pacquiao – to take place in Macau. Shiming, 33 years old, took the next step today (March 7), challenging for his first professional title in his seventh pro fight.
But when it came to the fight, although Zou was awarded a knockdown in the second round, when he moved forward he couldn’t press past the Thai’s longer reach. Scrappy at times, Ruenroeng’s effective work won the champion a unanimous decision, 116-111 for all three judges. Zou might not have been outclassed but he was well beaten.
Among the undercard fights Glen Tapia stopped Daniel Dawson in three rounds. Hong Kong’s Rex Tso collected a 10 round points win over Michael Enriquez.
