Ziyad Almaayouf opens Riyadh card with points win over de Oliveira
Ziyad Almaayouf

ZIYAD Almaayouf maintained his undefeated record on home soil with a one-sided points win over Brazilian veteran Jonatas de Oliveira.

The first round began with the 24-year-old Saudi Arabian on the front foot, popping out a very efficient jab and setting up the right hand. The punch variety was eye-catching from Almaayouf, who landed a powerful overhand right to the head of De Oliveira at the end of the round.

‘Zizo’ Almaayouf maintained his aggressive style into the second round, with effective work to the body. The most noteworthy moment of the round was a two-punch combination from the Saudi prospect, landing a right hook to the body followed by a left hook to the head – which certainly caught the attention of his veteran opponent.

Trainer Buddy McGirt was vocal in the third round, telling his fighter to focus and work the body. It was another accurate display for Almaayouf, showing a lot of punch variety and slick movement. Round four followed suit, with ‘Zizo’ upping the ante and letting his hands go, although de Oliveira didn’t offer much coming in the other direction.

Almaayouf worked well off his jab in round five, using it to set up multiple punch combinations against his Brazilian counterpart. He attacked the body and head very effectively when de Oliveira was against the ropes and continued his accurate and well-polished performance in the sixth and final round.

Referee Howard Foster scored the bout 60-54 in favour of the Saudi Arabian prospect Ziyad Almaayouf, who moved to 7-0-1 (1 KOs).
