Zab Judah delivers honest verdict on Devin Haney vs Shakur Stevenson: “He’s got to be aggressive”

Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson look set to collide in a battle of two undefeated American pound-for-pound superstars, securing a career-best triumph for the victor may be. Now, former undisputed welterweight world champion Zab Judah has offered his thoughts on the scrap.

Stevenson was linked to a clash with WBO welterweight world champion Haney earlier this year, but the four-division conqueror – who has captured world honours as low as 126lbs – was unwilling to venture up to the full 147lb division, whilst Haney refused to drop down to super-lightweight.

However, following the collapse of his fight with Keyshawn Davis in the summer, Haney has now offered Stevenson a compromise; prepared to accept a deal to fight at a catchweight between super-lightweight and welterweight.

As a result, it seems as though the unbeaten technicians may finally face one another, and Judah told MillCity Boxing that Haney must adopt the role of the aggressor in the contest, if it happens.

“With Devin being the bigger guy, stronger, I don’t know [if Stevenson can beat him]. I think that Devin might come in and press the fight.

“He knows that he can’t lay back and be comfortable in this fight. He has got to be aggressive to push the narrative in this fight. It’s going to be a great one.”

Yet, despite a public agreement, Judah maintained that he does not expect the bout to go ahead and that he will only believe it will once the promotion for the event begins.

“Until it is a signed deal and a signed contract and a network promotes it, I still don’t think that it happens.”

“This is not like the old days when if guys said, ‘Yo, I am going to fight you, we going to fight’, then we are going to fight. It’s not like that no more. Guys are able to divert a different way now.”

Haney-Stevenson is understood to be being targeted for Saturday, November 28, in Atlanta, for what would be one of the most intriguing scraps of the 2026 boxing calendar.
