WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO has revealed his disappointment that the rematch with Tyson Fury has been delayed. The two were meant to box on Saturday (July 9) after Fury won Klitschko’s heavyweight world titles in Dusseldorf last year.

“Last Saturday my rematch against Fury would have taken place, and it would have been my chance to correct my mistake from last November. I’m in top condition and have been working toward this date for weeks. Unfortunately, my opponent called it off two weeks ago due to an injury and we’re now searching for another date. I have to keep my fitness and above all my concentration and focus until then,” Klitschko wrote on Linked In.

Of course accidents happen, in fact their first fight was postponed after Klitschko picked up an injury in training. But there is no confirmed date yet for this rematch, though currently it is expected to take place in late October.

“When I found out about the match postponement two weeks ago, at first I was disappointed. Because of my fans who had been anxiously waiting for the match, and of course for myself too. I’ve been intensively preparing myself for weeks and months for this event – and now it gets postponed? And for now we can’t even say to what day. But thanks to my decades-long experience, I know very well how to handle this situation,” he continued. “I can’t let myself get off track. Might there be another reason for calling it off? Is the delay supposed to unsettle me?

“The first point of business is to clarify the situation and to agree on a new match date. We’re working flat out on that. Once the date is set, together with my team I’ll gear my preparation plan to it and continue where I left off: with optimum preparation for the fight.”
