WILLY Hutchinson has secured himself an intriguing domestic dustup against Mark Jeffers, who is moving up to light-heavyweight, for his long-awaited return on October 4.
The pair will lock horns at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow, Scotland, featuring on the undercard of Nathaniel Collinsโ European title fight against Cristobal Lorente.
It was previously announced that Hutchinson, 18-2 (13 KOs), would appear on the Queensberry Promotions show, but only now has it been confirmed that occupying the away corner is none other than Jeffers, 20-1 (7 KOs).
After joining forces with head coach Shane McGuigan earlier this year, an injury ultimately forced โThe Hutch Trainโ to pull out of his scheduled assignment against Zach Parker in April.
As a result, the 27-year-old has not fought since last September, back when he displayed a tremendous chin and plenty of heart in his split decision defeat to Joshua Buatsi.
Before that, Hutchinson pulled off a sizable upset to outpoint Craig Richards, making for a surprisingly one-sided display on Matchroom and Queensberryโs 5v5 card.
But of course, despite 12 months of inactivity hampering his momentum, the crafty mover will no doubt be hoping to progress beyond the domestic scene before long.
Standing in his way of a future world title shot, however, is Jeffers, who comes off a majority decision defeat to Sean Hemphill at 168lbs.
In that particular fight, the Chorley man abandoned his usual, more technically polished, approach, and instead opted to trade in the pocket with his equally durable opponent.
His performance, in that sense, was a far cry from what we saw him produce against Zak Chelli, where the 27-year-old showcased his fluid footwork, just over two years ago.
