Willy Hutchinson knocks out Mark Jeffers in round seven

Willy Hutchinson knocks out Mark Jeffers in round seven
Hutchison (L) and Jeffers (R).

WILLY Hutchinson made a mini-statement putting away Mark Jeffers in round seven of their Braehead Arena clash earlier this evening. Opening up the televised portion on DAZN, Hutchinson dictated things from the first bell, using his superior skillset and flexibility to make Jeffers seem a little flat-footed.

Not a big puncher, Jeffers’ stab jab to the body and upper body movement were on point. However, aside from a fourth-round overhand right, Chorley man Jeffers was unable to find a breakthrough. During round six, TV analyst Carl Frampton complained that the English visitor was too stiff and lacking fluidity.

Hutchinson flicked through the gears in the seventh by landing a right hand high on Jeffers’ head that instantly splayed the senses. Jeffers’ legs betrayed him and he tried to fight back as Hutchinson piled on the pressure, prompting referee John Latham to intervene at 2-15 of the round.

“Let’s go Scotland!” roared Hutchinson, 19-2 (14 KOs), channelling his inner Tyson Fury. The ‘Hutch Train’ called for a rematch with Joshua Buatsi.

Losing for the second time in a row, Jeffers is now 20-2 (7 KOs). Having tasted his first career defeat to Sean Hemphill in June, a stoppage loss soon after has left him dancing on ice regarding any future plans.
