Deontay Wilder has been linked to a surprising clash with Oleksandr Usyk in recent weeks, and ‘The Bronze Bomber’ has revealed how he believes a scrap between a prime Mike Tyson and his potential opponent would have played out.
Wilder has lost four of his last six contests and looked past his best in recent defeats to both Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, seeming oddly bewildered in the ring on both of those occasions.
Yet, unified heavyweight ruler Usyk has named Wilder as his ideal opponent for 2026, offering the Tuscaloosa-born knockout artist a shot at a shock return to the throne – one which Wilder believes he is capable of taking.
Whilst talks for Usyk-Wilder are ongoing, the recent news regarding a fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua leaves the American as the most lucrative available option for Usyk, making him an understandable selection for a voluntary defence.
‘The Bronze Bomber’ has now offered his take on how he thinks Usyk would have fared against boxing legend Mike Tyson, who still holds the honour of being the youngest world heavyweight champion in history.
Speaking to Daily Mail Sport, Wilder was full of praise for the Ukrainian, picking him to trump a prime Tyson in a fantasy fight.
“At this current time, we have got to go with Oleksandr Usyk [to beat Mike Tyson].”
Wilder then went on to state that he believes Muhammad Ali would have gotten the better of Usyk, but also declared that Ali would have beaten every past and present heavyweight when at his best.
