Having faced both former two-time world champions, Dillian Whyte has offered a fresh assessment of Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua’s expected showdown.
The two British heavyweights came through their respective warm-up fights over the weekend, albeit with varying degrees of difficulty against Mariusz Wach and Kristian Prenga.
While hardly turning in a vintage performance, Fury nonetheless encountered minimal jeopardy as he stopped the 46-year-old Wach in seven rounds.
Joshua, however, was made to survive two knockdowns against Prenga who, despite boasting a 100% knockout-to-win ratio, was considered a relatively low-risk opponent prior to their contest.
It therefore came as a surprise when he floored ‘AJ’ with a right uppercut within the first 20 seconds, before scoring yet another knockdown later in the round.
Ultimately, Joshua managed to get his man out of there in round two but, sure enough, it was far from the type of performance he had anticipated.
Speaking with IFL TV, Whyte offered a prediction, of sorts, after having previously been stopped by Joshua and Fury in 2015 and 2022, respectively.
“I think it’s either AJ by knockout or Fury by points. AJ’s not gonna outpoint Fury. If Tyson can keep it busy and [jab] for 12 rounds, he wins on points.”
Despite his prediction of a points victory, Whyte did admit that Fury could also win by stoppage, effectively giving ‘The Gypsy King’ a greater chance than Joshua.
It is important to mention, though, that Fury was very much at the peak of his powers when he stopped Whyte in six rounds at Wembley Stadium.
