SAY what you like about Mayweather-McGregor, but there is no denying that it will be a colossal event when the two protagonists collide at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 26.
Given that the main event is such a huge mismatch, boxing fans will be hoping there is a strong supporting cast on the undercard.
Mayweather Promotions are in charge of the undercard, which will all be boxing matches, rather than a mix and match with MMA fights.
Bookmaker Betway have IBF super-featherweight champion Gervonta Davis and former WBC super-middleweight champion Badou Jack – both Mayweather fighters – as the leading favourites to appear on the show.
Talks are still ongoing to match Jack – who has now moved to light-heavyweight – with Wales’ Nathan Cleverly. Davis’ next move is unclear after his recent victory over mandatory challenger Liam Walsh, but he is being groomed by Floyd as boxing’s next big star and is likely to find himself on the show.
At odds of 4/1, unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is unlikely to appear on the card, which is set to break pay-per-view records. He had previously joked with Mayweather about fighting on the show, but the Watford giant himself is a PPV attraction in the UK and is likely to rematch Wladimir Klitschko in October.
WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is only 2/1 to fight on the undercard. He is aligned with broadcaster Showtime – who will air Mayweather-McGregor on PPV – and does not have his next fight set.
For those interested, Betway are also offering odds of 16/1 on McGregor ditching the Queensbury rules and being disqualified by kicking Mayweather during the fight.
