UNBEATEN Scottish boxer Nathaniel Collins looks to take another step closer to world class on Saturday evening by upending European champion Cristobal Lorente in Glasgow’s Braehead Arena.
Both of these 29-year-olds have yet to taste defeat, but Collins appears to be pushing towards a higher ceiling. His Spanish opponent has other ideas. Let’s see who will join them on this Frank Warren card, televised live on DAZN.
Regan Glackin vs. Louie O’Doherty
A battle of unblemished souls for the vacant British lightweight title. Neither is a big puncher, so Glasgow man Glackin may need local support to help him over the line against O’Doherty, who will be a long way from home, travelling up from Essex to compete.
Willy Hutchinson vs. Mark Jeffers
This intriguing light-heavyweight clash sees world-level campaigner ‘Hutch Train’ take on an opponent who once aspired to that class but fell short and now needs the motivation to get back on track. Jeffers, a 27-year-old Chorley fighter, has exited the Boxxer fold for a crack at redemption and is very much the away boxer here in every sense.
Aston Brown vs. Paul Kean
Glasgow’s Brown has developed a bit of a reputation as an early finisher with his last two outings. Dundee man Kean will do well to avoid a similar fate to Fearghus Quinn (second round knockout) and Reece Porter (first round knockout), who have recently felt the Brown power.
Best of the Rest
The lower reaches of the undercard are littered with sons of famous fathers. Steve Collins Jr looks to continue his rebuild after three straight losses when the Dublin native takes on Javier Santana over six rounds.
Fauldhouse amateur standout Reese Lynch also features alongside Drew Limond, son of the late Willie Limond, and Alex Arthur Jr, whose father of the same name was pretty decent himself back in the day.
18-year-old Puerto Rican Yandiel Lozano-Oquendo, unbeaten super-bantamweight puncher Marcus Sutherland and Carlisle debutant John Joe Carrigan make up the remainder of the bill.
