Dana White suspects he could tempt Terence Crawford out of retirement, offering the “right fight” for the 38-year-old to gamble his unblemished record.
The American retired as an undefeated five-division world champion last December, just a few months removed from his undisputed triumph against Canelo Alvarez.
Despite being the naturally smaller man, ‘Bud’ moved up two weight classes and dethroned Canelo with a unanimous decision victory at 168lbs.
In doing so, he became a three-weight undisputed king and surely secured his Hall of Fame status, with many regarding him as one of the finest fighters of all time.
But despite there being very little left for Crawford to achieve, there is nonetheless an increasing demand for him to come out of retirement and prove his greatness against Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.
It has even reached a stage where ‘Bud’ is teasing his comeback on social media, asking Ennis whether he would entertain their potential showdown.
Of course, Boots has long expressed his interest in such a challenge, yet the unified super-welterweight champion happens to be signed with Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn, while Zuffa Boxing frontman White appears to have other ideas in mind.
Speaking with Nightcap, the UFC boss insisted he could lure Crawford out of retirement but stopped short of naming a possible opponent.
“If I went to Crawford with the right fight, Crawford would fight.”
Sure enough, many fighters would be grateful for the opportunity to face Crawford but, at this stage, there is no certainty that he will return to the ring.
