AMIR KHAN will box next in the first week of September in Birmingham. His opponent will be someone of a calibre “somewhere between the Crawfords and Spences and who he just fought [Phil Lo Greco]. In Birmingham, September 1 or 8,” promoter Eddie Hearn said.

He hopes that Khan will ultimately box Kell Brook but is looking at alternatives. Brook is expected to box next on the Dillian Whyte-Joseph Parker undercard on July 28 at the O2.

“I think he needs a fight somewhere between [Siarhei] Rabchenko and [WBA and IBF super-welterweight champion Jarrett] Hurd. He did a round and a half against Rabchenko, looked great but I’d like to see him have a good solid test at 154lbs and try and do some rounds and be put under a bit of pressure. Because Jarrett Hurd is a serious fighter and he’s huge. Although the focus is on Amir Khan, if we can’t get that fight we need to look at alternatives and to fight a belt holder would be of interest,” Hearn said.

“The focus is to fight Amir Khan but if a deal can’t be reached we have to look at people like Hurd.”

Also expect world champion Katie Taylor, heavyweight Dereck Chisora and hot prospect Joshua Buatsi to box on that July 28 bill.
