AFTER winning the British heavyweight title in December, Anthony Joshua will fight again on April 9 in the O2. His opponent should be revealed imminently with the likes of Dereck Chisora, Johan Duhaupas, Bryant Jennings and Bermane Stiverne in the frame.

“You’ve got an interesting dynamic now with David Haye and Joshua both fighting in London, seven weeks apart or something like that. I think Joshua will fight again end of June or early July,” promoter Eddie Hearn told Boxing News. That summer fight might be in an open air stadium, depending on the opponent.

“It could be Charles Martin, it could be a world title fight. I feel like whoever it is next [in April], that pot might remain the same for the next fight [after]. If it’s Chisora this time, June/July might be Stiverne or Jennings. If it’s Jennings this time, Chisora might have a good win and we might do him in the summer. The pot will expand. People like Joseph Parker will come into the mix, people like David Price might come into the mix, Dillian Whyte might come back for a rematch. We need to come up with an opponent that will make Joshua improve and the public will buy into and will provide a good fight and a good test.

“Everybody wants a fortune to fight him and we’ve got a nice budget for it as well but we’re not going to be held to ransom, especially as we’ve got so many options. Whoever fights Anthony Joshua is going to have a wonderful pay day next.”
