IT’S very rare that big fights are announced and it’s a surprise. Negotiations are drawn out, with contracts being bickered over so loudly that the media almost always hears what’s going on. The case of middleweight terror Gennady Golovkin’s September 10 showdown with IBF welterweight boss Kell Brook was a stunning exception to the rule, however. When this was revealed the boxing world stopped, rubbed its eyes in disbelief, and – like several of Golovkin’s past opponents – struggled to pick its jaw up off the floor.
