IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby, the “Welsh Mayweather” as he’s known to Boxing News, puts his world title on the line against Jonathan Victor Barros on the Eubank-Abraham bill at Wembley Arena on Saturday (July 15).

He is putting the final touches on his training camp and expects a tough challenge from the Argentine. “It’s gone well. I’ve had brilliant sparring. I always train 100% every training session. Everything’s on track,” Lee told BN.

“He’s a very good fighter, strong, experienced, punches hard. But I believe if I box to the best of my ability I can beat anybody.”

Selby hopes to take on the best available if he does come through against Barros. “Hopefully I can win this fight and then that frees me up from any mandatory obligations for the next nine months so I can be involved in one of the big super-fights,” he said.

Scott Quigg, who has now moved up to featherweight, could be an appealing match. “He’s a big name over here in the UK and that’s a fight I’d love to have. He’s a good fighter, very strong, very fit, comes forward, pressure fighter but that suits me,” Lee noted.

Selby has also been linked with Carl Frampton, saying “He’s fighting in two weeks’ time so we’re on the same timeframe so maybe we can do that next if we both get through the fights with wins.”
