WBA could order Anthony Crolla-Darleys Perez rematch

THE WBA could order a rematch between Anthony Crolla and Darleys Perez after their controversial draw for the world lightweight title in Manchester on Saturday (July 18).

“They’re reviewing it. What they’ve got is this agency that reviews scoring,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “So it’ll be interesting to see what they come up with. There’s a chance they’ll order it but I’m also talking to Gary Shaw about doing it anyway. Now it’s a bigger fight.

“It was a close fight but with the points [deductions] I can’t see how you can’t score it to Crolla… I think there needs to be a rematch.”

Derry Mathews, the WBA interim champion, is the number one contender and so should be the mandatory challenger for the title in due course. It means Kevin Mitchell’s hopes of challenging the winner of Crolla-Perez will likely have to go on hold.

“If Crolla had won, Crolla v Mitchell for the WBA lightweight title is a massive fight. But of course we’re in a position where they now both looking for another shot,” Hearn continued.
