LENAR Perez steps up in class on April 27 when he faces Aleksei Egorov for the IBA Intercontinental Pro title at cruiserweight. Fresh off the back of Pavel Sosulin’s clash with Lucas Bastida, which was streamed on April 25 on the Boxing News YouTube page, this latest boxing marathon begins on Sunday around 3pm (BST). The event takes place in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Cuban-born Perez is a fearsome specimen, having knocked out all 14 opponents since turning pro in 2018. His career journey has spanned the corners of Europe. Now he meets experienced Egorov, 33, who suffered a couple of defeats when moving up the levels.

That said, Egorov has fought at better levels than Perez, despite the Cuban’s aesthetically pleasing professional slate. The 27-year-old, originally from Holguin City, has been ploughing through lower-level foes. A couple of undefeated fighters have been extinguished inside the distance, however, including 8-0 Rashid Kodzoev and 11-0 Rosmen Brito. The latter lasted just one round.

Egorov has mixed in far better company, having gone 12 rounds (winning a few of them) with then-WBA cruiserweight king Arsen Goulamirian in France, 2022. He lasted into the 11th with Brandon Glanton last year in Moscow before being stopped. That resistance should help make things interesting if he can extend Perez past the early third of this contest.
