VIJENDER SINGH will turn professional with promoter Frank Warren after signing a four year deal.

His pro debut is slated for late September or October and he will work with Manchester trainer Lee Beard.

“I’m excited to turn pro and looking forward to the new chapter of my life,” Singh said. “I want to train hard and perform for my country at the global level.”

Singh’s 2008 Olympic bronze medal gave a huge boost to the popularity of boxing in India. He stayed with the amateurs, reaching the quarter-finals of the last Olympic Games.

As a sign of his star power Vijender has also appeared in Bollywood movies.
