VASYL LOMACHENKO has confirmed he will remain at super-featherweight after making history by winning a world title in a second weight class in just his seventh fight last month.

The masterful Ukrainian destroyed Roman Martinez in five rounds to lift the WBO 130lb world title, having previously held the featherweight version.

The 28-year-old won the featherweight world title in just his third fight when he outpointed the supremely talented Gary Russell Jnr in 2014.

“My decision between WBO 126lb and 130lb was made. Better opportunities at 130lbs. This is why I am keeping it and vacating my 126lb WBO title,” he wrote on Twitter.

His vacant featherweight title is to be contested by Oscar Valdez and Matias Rueda this weekend on the Terence Crawford-Viktor Postol undercard.

Lomachenko had moved to 130lbs after failing to secure big fights at featherweight, in particular against Nicholas Walters, who himself has moved to super-featherweight.

Another option at the weight is Orlando Salido, who outpointed Lomachenko in just his second paid fight.
