Oleksandr Usyk has named the fighter who he believes to be boxing’s hardest active puncher.
A two-division undisputed world champion, Usyk vacated his heavyweight marbles earlier this year after underwhelming in a scrap with Rico Verhoeven at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt but escaping with a controversial round 11 stoppage win.
Whilst Usyk’s time as a heavyweight world champion appears to have come to an end, the Ukrainian mastermind is planning at least one more outing before hanging up the gloves, with recent news suggesting that the veteran could even return to cruiserweight for a shock clash with David Benavidez.
Usyk had also been rumoured for a showdown with American knockout artist Deontay Wilder, as he planned to add the name of another top heavyweight from his generation to his astonishing résumé, alongside the likes of Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.
Whilst it seems as though Wilder may instead take on Jai Opetaia on the Fury vs. Joshua undercard at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Usyk has now shared his belief that ‘The Bronze Bomber’ is not even the biggest puncher on that bill.
Instead, when asked by to build his ‘perfect boxer’ on his YouTube channel, Usyk opted for the punch power of good friend and former opponent, Joshua, implying that he believes ‘AJ’ to be the biggest puncher on the planet.
Out of Joshua’s 30 victories, 27 of them have come by knockout, having stopped the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Dillian Whyte, Alexander Povetkin and Kubrat Pulev during his career.
Joshua will hope to display that power once again and prove Usyk right by becoming the first man to halt Fury when the British duo collide on Friday, December 11.
