A clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua has been demanded for years, but it now appears the all-British grudge match is finally set to take place in December.
In a shock twist, recent reports suggest that Fury’s former trainer and uncle will help his fierce rival prepare for the blockbuster showdown. Now, ‘The Gypsy King’ has responded to the news.
Fury was trained by uncle Peter Fury for some of his early career, until a reported fall-out following his fabled unified heavyweight world title win over Wladimir Kltschko saw the pair part ways.
Ahead of his comeback in 2018, Fury then appointed Ben Davison as his new trainer, whom he stayed with for five fights until he made the switch to SugarHill Steward – opting for the ‘Kronk’ style of fighting for his 2020 rematch with Deontay Wilder – and he has remained with Steward ever since.
Meanwhile, Davison has since gone on to train Joshua for another five fights, but was replaced by Iegor Golub for recent contests against Jake Paul and Kristian Prenga, only to be brought back into Team Joshua for his upcoming showdown with ‘The Gypsy King’.
However, ‘AJ’ has now unveiled that Davison is not the only former Team Fury member aiding his preparation, revealing that he is in regular contact with Peter Fury and has been receiving tips and advice from the well-respected trainer.
On his Instagram, Fury dismissed those claims, refusing to believe the truth of what could potentially be Joshua’s secret weapon.
“This is the biggest BS I’ve ever seen!
“No Fredo here guys!”
Peter Fury trained Rico Verhoeven for his bout with Oleksandr Usyk earlier this year and received plenty of plaudits despite being on the losing side.
