Tyson Fury reveals his current weight ahead of comeback: “I’m not taking this lightly”

Tyson Fury says he is working hard in the gym in the hope of dropping around 20lbs ahead of a ring return in the first quarter of this year.

It was only last week that ‘The Gypsy King’ officially confirmed his comeback – ending months of speculation – and revealed several clips of himself training with heavyweight contender Kevin Lerena.

In response to the social media footage, many pointed to the physique of Fury, suggesting he still has a way to go before getting back into fighting shape.

That much cannot be disputed by even the 37-year-old himself, though a tradition of boxing at heavier weights in recent years has nonetheless seen the former world champion produce some of his best performances.

Back in 2020, for instance, Fury hit the scales at 273lbs and turned in a truly destructive display against Deontay Wilder, ending their rematch with a seventh-round finish.

More recently, the Brit weighed 262lbs for his first encounter with Oleksandr Usyk, which he lost via a split decision in May 2024, before piling on just under 20lbs for their rematch. Both performances were solid, but Usyk just proved too much.

Now over a year down the line, Fury claims to still be walking around at the same weight – roughly 280lbs – while promising to get back down to 262lbs ahead of his return.

Eager to get back into the win column following a second points defeat to Usyk, Fury insisted on an Instagram post yesterday that his comeback could be staged in the next few months.

“[I’m] working very hard for this return; ‘The Gypsy King’ is not taking this lightly, whatsoever.

“I’ve had a few comments [saying that] I’m looking a bit hench, chubby, fat. Well, welcome to my world; [it’s] never been any different.

“I beat everybody with a fat belly – never been any different. I’m weighing about 20 stone [280lbs] at the moment. I’ll probably get down to about, under 19 [266lbs] maybe, for the comeback – nice and loose and fast.

“I’m looking forward to it. I’ve had a year out and, if I box in the first quarter [of 2026], it could be up to 16 months out the ring.”

With Fury having officially ended his retirement, Queensberry promoter Frank Warren has named Arslanbek Makhmudov as a possible opponent for his first fight back.
