THE charges of a doping violation levelled at world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury will go before a hearing. UK Anti-Doping confirmed that on June 24 both Tyson and his cousin, rising prospect Hughie Fury were charged with the presence of a prohibited substance after a drug test.
According to UK Anti-Doping rules both were then handed mandatory provisional suspensions. Tyson Fury’s team have denied the allegations and are determined to clear his name. Today (August 3) those suspensions were lifted ahead of the charges being heard before the National Anti-Doping Panel.
“In response to public comments made by Tyson and Hughie Fury’s representatives, UK Anti-Doping can confirm that both boxers were charged on June 24 2016 with presence of a Prohibited Substance. Mandatory Provisional Suspensions were imposed pursuant to Article 7.9.1 of the UK Anti-Doping Rules,” said a UKAD spokesperson.
“The UK Anti-Doping Rules allow athletes to challenge the imposition of a Provisional Suspension and the independent National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP) today lifted the athletes’ suspensions, pending full determination of the charges. These charges will be heard at a hearing before the NADP in due course.
“UK Anti-Doping will not comment further on the case until due legal process has been completed.”
Fury’s rematch with Wladimir Klitschko, originally scheduled for July 9, is still waiting for a new date to be confirmed.
Peter Fury, Tyson’s uncle and trainer, has staunchly defended the boxers and maintained the allegations are false, previously telling Boxing News, “It’s one thing after another. Stuff like this should be highly confidential, then stuff gets leaked to the papers and all this. In my opinion it’s all to discredit Tyson Fury even further. I don’t see anything in all of it.
“We’ve got an adequate legal team who are dealing with it.
