TYSON FURY has split with his coach Ben Davison two months before his expected fight with Deontay Wilder, PA reports
Davison has been in the 31-year-old’s corner for the last two years but announced their decision to part ways on Twitter, insisting they are still friends. Fury will now work with a new trainer for his heavyweight rematch with American WBC champion Wilder in February.
Davison said on Twitter: “Obviously it’s not gonna stop until there’s an answer, Tyson and myself had to both make decisions for our careers, which resulted in our working relationship coming to an end.
“However, we remain friends and he will smash the dosser!”

It is a surprise move. Although Ben Davison was largely untested before linking up with Tyson Fury, he enjoyed undeniable success with the British heavyweight. He guided Fury through his comeback, helping Tyson shed a tremendous amount of weight. Although their first two fights together were against low key opponents Sefer Seferi and Francesco Pianeta, Fury excelled against WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, held only to a controversial draw last year.
Davison was in the corner for Fury’s two fights this year with new promoter Top Rank. While Tyson impressed when stopping Tom Schwarz, his points win over Otto Wallin saw him struggle with a cut. That latest performance attracted criticism, notably from Fury’s own father John.
The split from Davison is particularly unexpected now as Tyson’s next contest is shaping up to be the rematch with Wilder, the biggest fight of Fury’s career to date. That is being eyed for as soon as February. He would therefore only have one training camp and a couple of months to gel with a new coach.
Fury has had Freddie Roach and Ricky Hatton, esteemed trainers, assisting his corner in the past. But there are other coaches who might be better suited to his style. Dominic Ingle, for instance, could be a good option for him.
