TYSON FURY, the WBO and WBA world heavyweight champion, has denied allegations that an irregularity arose in a drug test last year. An article in the Sunday Mirror claimed “unacceptable levels of nandrolone”, a prohibited substance, had been detected in a sample. The newspaper has not disclosed its source.
In a statement, Team Fury declared, “We are baffled by today’s story in the Sunday Mirror. Tyson Fury absolutely denies any allegation of doping. He looks forward to recovering from his injury and defending his titles against Wladimir Klitschko in October.”
UK Anti-Doping won’t discuss cases until any legal process has been completed.
After beating Wladimir Klitschko last year, Fury was scheduled to defend the WBA and WBO heavyweight titles in a rematch in July. However Tyson injured his ankle, which has forced the Klitschko rematch to be postponed to later this year, still at the Manchester Arena, with dates in October being eyed. Klitschko has been positive about the delay, initially saying, “Fury is injured and rematch postponed. This just means I’ll get my belt a few weeks later.”
