A JUBILANT Tyler Denny is now looking to bigger and more financially rewarding fights after defeating Felix Cash last night in Birmingham.
Denny (19-2-3, 1 KO) won by fifth-round technical decision following a cut suffered by Cash, which was ruled as an accidental head clash. The victory saw the 32-year-old retain his European middleweight title in what was the biggest win of his career.
Denny, promoted by Boxxer, fought on a Matchroom promotion, which no doubt sweetened the victory for his own promoter, Ben Shalom, who was in attendance at the Resorts World Arena to cheer on his fighter. Shalom revealed post-fight that Denny would return on a show scheduled for September 28.
“I’ve got a lot catching up to do because this is my first fight this year,” Denny told Boxing News.
“I was meant to fight end of February or beginning of March and then the purse bids got done and because we lost the purse bids, we got left in the lurch of when we was fighting so it ended up end of June and we wasn’t happy with that at the time and I think Felix needed as long as he wanted.”
As for who may be next the Wordsley-born southpaw is realistic to know it will likely not be Chris Eubank Jr but does welcome a showdown with someone closer to home.
“Do I think that’ll happen? Probably not. Which I understand. If I’m Chris Eubank Jr, you want pay-per-view, massive fights so I’m not delusional but if that fight got offered, I’m going to take it with my fans 100%.”
While Denny is the European champion, another of his BCB Promotions stable-mates – Nathan Heaney – is the current British middleweight titlist. Heaney first has to overcome Brad Pauls at the second time of asking on July 20 after the pair drew their original encounter in March.
“I’d fight Heaney any day,” Denny said.
“I like him, but if we can chuck loads of money, he can earn loads of money, I can earn loads of money, we can do that fight 100%. But he’s got to fight Brad Pauls again first so I don’t want to throw disrespect on Brad Pauls because they had a good fight first but like I say, I get on with Nathan but if we can put the British and European titles on the line, then 100%.”
