TYLER DENNY set about his ambitions of rebuilding a path towards national honours with a long-haul fight in the bag.

The left-handed middleweight relinquished the Midlands title before going into battle, after an unsuccessful tilt at the English crown last year. The man who thwarted him under the same Town Hall lights, Reece Cartwright, was in attendance to cheer him on.

Denny recorded an eight-round points whitewash (80-72) over the tough Serge Ambomo, who stood firm even when the pace was upped in the last two rounds. Michael Alexander officiated.

Levi Ferguson got his second six-rounder in the bag, this time seeing off Nathan Hardy after a spirited challenge from his opponent.

Ferguson nudged over the line by a points margin of 58-57, with Hardy growing in confidence and bringing his best towards the end. Chris Dean was the referee.

Sid Bowater ended a two-year exile from the ring with a four-round landslide over Fonz Alexander, the distance for the home corner on the rest of the show.

Bowater sized up some good shots that bounced off veteran campaigner Alexander, so he boxed to the finish. Mr Dean watched them do it.

Lee Glover is planning another surge towards opportunity, after previously competing for Midlands and English belts.

The “Tipton Slasher” has boxed only once in the past three years, but did enough to be rightfully crowned the winner against Michael Mooney.

Glover showed good punch variation, but didn’t find the target as much as he would have liked. Mooney, who pinched the third, came off second best 39-37 on Mr Dean’s scorecard.

Amy Timlin and Sonia Klos spent most of their clash at close quarters, which better suited the former, who won at a canter.

Timlin soon got the upper hand and retained it for the distance, earning a 40-36 verdict with Mr Alexander the man in the middle.

Troi Coleman also came out on top with the same verdict over Owen Jobburn, a Midlands title challenger in the welterweight division. Mr Dean officiated.

Coleman connected enough with the right hand to prevail in every round, remaining undefeated with the best name on his pro record to date.

Former soldier Alex Jones opened the show with success over the still-winless southpaw MJ Hall, who claimed a round along the way. Mr Dean was the man in the middle.

The Verdict Denny gets in some rounds which will prove useful when he steps up to title class.
