WITH Canelo-Crawford now formally announced, fighters and promoters are scrambling for representation on the blockbuster bill. Now, Turki Al-Alshikh appears to have made an intriguing selection.
The Saudi powerhouse has been vocal in his intentions to reward fighters with an exciting style and freeze out those who opt for a more defence-focussed, safety-first or, in his words, ‘Tom and Jerry’ way of fighting.
As a result, Alalshikh has openly targeted undercard appearances for Junto Nakatani, Christian Mbilli, Mohammed Alakel, Reito Tsutsumi, Justin Viloria, Emiliano Alvarado, Jamar Talley, Abdullah Mason and Nishant Dev.
However, it remains to be seen how many of those contenders will be officially confirmed for the mammoth card on Saturday, September 23.
This morning, Alalshikh took to X to reveal another fighter whom he plans to add to the card, with 20-year-old Liverpool flyweight Mikie Tallon, 8-0 (1 KO), becoming the first Briton to be mentioned for the show.
“I want to see this fighter [Tallon] on the undercard of Canelo vs Crawford.”
Managed by Natasha Jonas, Tallon has fought regularly since debuting in late 2023 but it appears to have been his most recent outing, against Jemsi Kibazange, which has caught the eye of Alalshikh.
After seven straight decision wins as a professional, Tallon was tasked with the Tanzanian at the Greenbank Sports Academy and needed just two rounds to dispatch of his man and secure a first career stoppage.
‘The Omen’ is scheduled to compete for a second time in four weeks when he fights at the Olympia on Friday, July 11, but it remains to be seen whether Tallon will proceed with that bout and risk injury now that Alalshikh has registered his interest.
