Tim Tszyu confident of being involved in more ‘big fights’
Tszyu's loss to Murtazaliev was his second this year.

TIM TSZYU may be down but he isn’t out.

The Australian suffered a crushing defeat on Saturday night at the hands of IBF super-welterweight titlist Bakhram Murtazaliev. Tszyu entered the Caribe Royale in Orlando as the overwhelming favourite to become a two-time world champion but had those ambitions crushed in three rounds by the Russian.

Before 2024 Tszyu had never lost a fight but this year the 29-year-old has suffered back-to-back defeats to Sebastian Fundora, in March, and on Saturday night against Murtazaliev.

Tszyu has faced criticism from the boxing community since Saturday night with some even calling for ‘The Soul Taker’ to retire.

Speaking on social media today (Monday) Tszyu says he will be back.

“It is what it is. I got caught with a shot and I couldn’t move on. Kept getting up but that wasn’t good enough. Congrats to my opponent on a tremendous performance. We move on, regroup and my team will be back.

“Thank you to PBC, to No Limit for always supporting no matter what. I will be back, I’ll still be in big fights soon. I’ve got to find plenty of answers from myself, of course. But the main thing my dad told me, from a young age, is to never give up. If you shoot for the stars and crash and burn on the way just keep going. I’m going to keep going and keep reaching for the stars.”
