THE World Boxing Organisation (WBO) has ruled that Timothy Bradley’s clash with Jessie Vargas this Saturday will be for their interim world welterweight title.

The bout was originally intended to be for the full title, which Floyd Mayweather won from Manny Pacquiao in May and stated he was then going to vacate.

He has since backtracked on that intention and his lawyer wrote to the WBO to inform them of the fighter’s intention to remain their champion.

‘Money’ now has until July 3 to pay the required $200,000 sanctioning fee for the Pacquiao fight as well as vacate his WBC and WBA light-middleweight titles, which he has not defended for almost two years, as the WBO does not allow fighters to hold titles in multiple weight divisions.

If Mayweather fails to meet those requirements, it is likely the winner of Saturday’s fight will be elevated to full champion, meaning Bradley could potentially regain the title he lost to Pacquiao in their rematch last year.
