VASYL LOMACHENKO is, in the estimation of many, the best fighter in the world today. 2018 was a key year for him. He became a three weight world champion, he beat his most challenging opponent to date in Jorge Linares and unified the WBO and WBA lightweight world titles when he defeated Jose Pedraza in December.

The plan for him in 2019 is to continue to unify world titles. On February 2 Richard Commey boxes Isa Chaniev at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco for the vacant IBF lightweight title. Lomachenko is waiting for the victor.

“Lomachenko is going to fight the winner of Commey and the Russian that’s on our February 2 card, going to fight them in April,” promoter Bob Arum told Boxing News.

Later on in the year Lomachenko intends to come to Britain. Anthony Crolla is a former WBA world champion and although in the past he has lost twice to mutual opponent Jorge Linares, he is being lined up for a shot at the Ukrainian.

“Then if all goes well we’re going to try to have him come to the UK,” Arum continued, “to fight Crolla here in the UK.”
