TURKI Al-Alshikh has outlined a 13-month roadmap for Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia, which could result in a shot at the world welterweight title at the end of it.
The warring super-lightweights are back on a collision course after signing agreements to both feature in separate fights on the same US card this May.
Then, if they both win, the pair are set to meet in their anticipated rematch in October of this year, which will be 18 months on from their controversial initial encounter.
Garcia, who came in 3 1/4lbs overweight, dropped Haney three times that night and won a majority decision at the Barclays Centre. However the result was changed to a no contest because ‘King Ry’ tested positive for the banned substance ostarine the day before and after his upset victory.
But now they are both just one win away from the chance to meet again in a money-spinning clash that will open Riyadh Season in October.
But Al-Alshikh, the chairman of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority, revealed he even has plans beyond that fight which look set to involve a move up to welterweight, with IBF champion Jarron Ennis named.
He wrote on Twitter: “It is easy. .fight in may then the big rematch in october and in the same card we will try Teo [Teofimo Lopez] against [Jaron] BOOTS [Ennis] then the winner against the winner and loser against loser in February…need to discuss with our partners top rank and matchroom and goldenboy and PBC.”
Neither Ennis or Lopez currently have a fight scheduled. Ennis is 33-0 (29) and beat Karen Chukhadzhian in November while Lopez, the WBO super-lightweight champion, reportedly turned down a potential fight with Subriel Matias.
But now they could be on course to face other, presumably for Ennis’ current title, before a potential showdown with Haney or Garcia in February 2026.
